Kyoto 2006
The July festival
Arasiyama
Adasino-Nenbutuji 步填前施畸 (Arasiyama)
Otagi-Nenbutuji 唉沛畸、前施畸 (Arasiyama)
The pagoda of Daikakji (Arasiyama)
Fusimi Inari Shrine
The Fusimi Shrine is my favroite, because of the unique business
and art it makes with torii (the red gates to shintoist
shrines). The way up to the top of the neighboring Inari
mountain is full of these things (in various sizes)...
Eikan-do
Okuri-bi (August 16th)
On that day, a fire is lit at several spots of Kyoto
in the frame of the o-bon festival. It is believed
that the soul of the dead come back. There are 6 fire
spots, the one of which (the big Dai-monji) I visited.
The flames can get 3 meters high. (The spots are on the
surrounding hills, in the midst of greenery, so there is
a plenty of firefighters...)
How the other fires look from far. The characters
摊(myo) and 恕(ho).
The small Dai-monji and the ship.
(The sixth spot, the torii, was too far to take.)
Sekigahara, an area between Nagoya and Kyoto
famous for heavy snowfalls and Shinkansen blackouts...
